Signal Verification

How to verify your Simcrypted number across your Signal account.

If you are using Signal for the first time, follow the in-app instructions and ignore the below.

Replacing your existing personal number for Simcrypted is easy, and you can keep all of your chat history.

Step-by-step guide

N.B depending on your device, there may be slight variations to the below:

  1. Important: before you verify your new Simcrypted plan on Signal please make sure you have added a forwarding number in your Simcrypted dashboard — you need this to receive your Signal verification code.
  2. Now open Signal on your device.
  3. Head to “Settings” then “Privacy.”
  4. In the Privacy section head to “Advanced” settings
  5. Toggle “Signal messages and calls” to off (accept any pop-up that comes)
  6. Now toggle it back on.
  7. Here you can input your new Simcypted number and press “verify.”
  8. Signal will send you an SMS code to complete the verification – which should be automatically recognised without needing to type manually.

N.b. This is sometimes device-dependent and depends on permissions, so you may need to type manually if it doesn’t automatically input for you.

Important note: If you do not immediately receive an SMS from Signal, wait for the “call me” option and select.

That’s it! You now have total anonymity on Signal.

In short, no. WhatsApp only allows one number to be verified at a time. There are, however, workarounds to this. If you want to keep your WhatsApp account with your personal number and use Simcrypted on a new WhatsApp profile there are two ways you can do this;

  1. Download WhatsApp Business from the app store on your phone. It’s free and doesn’t require you to be an operating business. Follow the same steps for verification as you normally would and you now have both your private WhatsApp and a new WhatsApp Business app linked to your Simcrypted number.

  2. On some android devices, you can use the “duplicate apps” feature. This will duplicate any app you have downloaded and WhatsApp is no exception. Search for “duplicate apps” in your phone’s settings and follow the on-screen instructions. Once you have duplicated WhatsApp you can then verify using your Simcrypted number.

The Change Number feature via the settings on WhatsApp allows you to change your phone number linked to your WhatsApp account. WhatsApp also informs all your contacts what your new Simcrypted number is so you don’t have to go through any hassle of messaging your contacts individually. Additionally, if you don’t want to share your new Simcrypted number with everyone, you can create a customized list of your preferred contacts.

Conveniently, using the Change Number feature in WhatsApp will migrate your profile information, groups, and settings from your old phone number to your Simcrypted number. For privacy, it will also delete the account linked with your personal number, meaning your contacts can no longer see your previous personal number in their WhatsApp contact list.

Finally, and what makes it so pain-free to use Simcrypted ; when you change your number and continue using the same phone with your Simcrypted number, your chat history will continue to be available on your phone.

Important Reminder:

Remember to back-up your chat history before changing your number to Simcrypted to ensure all the above goes smoothly!

When you go through the Change Number feature in WhatsApp settings, you can choose whether you want your contacts to be notified about your phone number change. Your group chats will be notified when you change your phone number regardless of whether you choose to notify your contacts. This is done automatically and instantly.

It’s a similar story across other messaging apps, you can customise how you want your contacts to be notified or see your new Simcrypted number.

No, your Simcrypted number needs to stay active to enjoy uninterrupted service. If you do not, you can lose all of your conversations and history at any time when your Simcrypted number is not active.

Based on the above we highly recommend keeping your Simcrypted number active!

Simcrypted numbers are designed to work only on your messaging apps, and for privacy and security reasons, incoming calls outside of these apps will not work. To make secure calls using your Simcrypted dialling in or out will only work “in-app” such as calling via WhatsApp, Telegram etc.

We have a voicemail-to-email feature so that anyone who attempted to call you without using WhatsApp, Signal etc, will be able to leave you a voice recording which is then sent to your email address registered to your account. From there, you can choose how (or if) you want to respond in your own way.

Activating your Simcrypted number takes seconds:

  1. Once you have successfully gone through the checkout, check your email for confirmation and click the link to your dashboard.

  2. In your dashboard, click to the numbers section and then click “Edit”.

  3. Add your forwarding number and once saved your Simcrypted number is activated.

  4. You can now add your Simcrypted number to your chosen social messaging apps.

  5. For verification support, head to our dedicated posts depending on what app you are using.
